long ago and out along the shore
football came with a fiery war
dogs of orange and a bite
Long Beach fans witnessed the sight
in ’37 they were playoff bound
the pigskin sailed with a mighty sound
Gilmore was home and the game is golden
fans cheered the field when they strolled in
the dogs beat the great teams with names that remain
the dogs toiled in silence obscurity’s chain
in ’48 they ended and left the golden state bare
we must remember and loudly declare
the Bulldogs were mighty and we raise a glass
to the blue and orange may their memory never pass
From 1936 to 1948 the Los Angeles Bulldogs played to crowds of eighteen thousand fans.
