On His Back

Upside down tortoise

helpless and falling deeper

some days are too long and painful

attackers seem around the corner

food has no taste

dizzy and nausea swarm and swallow

buzzing flies amid rising temperatures

the gates are unlocked

evil seeps close

when did it get this bad?

metallic teeth scratch a black board

laughing voices tease and bewilder

staggering through the day

unable to get upright

sad

despondent

the end

a sudden move

strikes

the back on all fours

this old world is good again
