eleven days and nights of a hard old road
a villainous journey that was slow and got slower
run ins with the law and hours between rides
hot desert days and frigid mountainsides
sandwiches from a sack and water from a pipe
cash in a trash can wallet with a stripe
bought some beer with tacos roadside stand
edge of the highway sticking out my hand
red pickup slowed and gave me a ride
told him my name but that was a lie
up ahead there’s some lights and vacancy sign
showers and a soft bed TV was cloud nine
never want to leave but tomorrow’s another day
sleep came too quick and office coffee’s pay
back on the road and another motel
lights up my soul fills my well
